Aston Villa legend Gabriel Agbonlahor has backed Lionel Messi to feature at the 2030 FIFA World Cup, despite the Argentine's cryptic update that he's 'not thinking about that'. The former England player believes Messi will be a key player for Argentina when the tournament is co-hosted by Morocco, Portugal, and Spain in 2030.
Messi will be 43 years old by then, but Agbonlahor is confident that the Inter Miami star will continue to play at the highest level. He also claimed that if Messi signs for Aston Villa, the team will win the Premier League and Champions League.
Messi is currently leading the Golden Boot race at the 2026 World Cup with five goals and became the all-time leading goalscorer in the tournament with 18 goals. Agbonlahor praised Messi's impact on the pitch, saying it's like watching a '90-minute concert'.
When asked about his future, Messi said he will continue playing as long as he can contribute to his team and feel good physically. However, he's not thinking about the 2030 World Cup just yet, saying it's a bit far off.
