Michigan Aims to Defend Big Ten Tournament Title and Secure NCAA No. 1 Seed

CHICAGO — No. 3 Michigan is set to defend its Big Ten Tournament title, with bigger goals on the horizon. The Wolverines are eyeing a repeat and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA, with the ultimate goal of capturing the school's second national championship.

Michigan, along with No. 8 Michigan State, No. 9 Illinois, and No. 11 Nebraska, earned byes through the first three rounds and will begin play in the quarterfinals on Friday. The Wolverines come to Chicago with 15 straight conference wins, including a sweep of third-seeded Michigan State during the regular season.

Coach Dusty May expressed excitement about the upcoming tournament, stating, 'We’re excited to be playing. We’re going to play three really good basketball teams.'

Michigan's only losses were by three to Wisconsin and by five to Duke in a potential Final Four preview. The Wolverines are looking to become the conference tournament's first repeat champions since Michigan in 2017 and 2018.

Other teams to watch include Purdue, led by star big man Zach Edey, Nebraska with Pryce Sandfort, and Illinois with Keaton Wagler and Andrej Stojakovic. Michigan State would love another shot at Michigan, with point guard Jeremy Fears saying, 'We showed our team can play with anybody.'
