The Supreme Court has allowed Vinesh Phogat to compete in the selection trials for the 2026 Asian Games, despite missing a doping test in January.
The court scheduled a further hearing for June 1 and questioned the manner in which the Delhi High Court dealt with the matter.
Phogat, a renowned wrestler, had explained that she missed the doping test to attend an assembly as an MLA in Haryana, but the International Testing Agency refused to accept her explanation.
The Wrestling Federation of India had taken the matter to the Supreme Court after the Delhi HC allowed Phogat to participate in the trials.
The Delhi High Court had maintained that the law should ensure that motherhood doesn't become a reason to exempt iconic athletes like Phogat.
The selection trials are scheduled for May 30-31 at Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi.
