The highly anticipated showdown between Lionel Messi and Lamine Yamal has been scrapped after UEFA cancelled the Finalissima between Spain and Argentina due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The match was scheduled to take place in Doha on March 27, but following extensive discussions between UEFA and the Qatari authorities, it was deemed unsuitable to host the event.

UEFA explored alternative dates and venues, including Madrid and Buenos Aires, but could not reach a consensus with the Argentinian Football Association.

The decision marks the cancellation of the fourth edition of the Finalissima, which was set to feature the European champions Spain against the South American champions Argentina.

The previous edition was held in 2022 at Wembley Stadium, where Argentina beat Italy 3–0.
