The US military has launched strikes on 10 targets in Iran, in response to an attack on a commercial ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's navy and aerospace forces have retaliated by targeting US military sites in Kuwait and Bahrain.

The latest exchange of attacks risks escalating the conflict in West Asia, despite Iran and the US reaching an interim agreement aimed at negotiating a final deal to end the war.

The US Central Command said American military aircraft struck Iranian military 'surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defence sites, drone storage facilities, and minelayer capabilities' after a merchant vessel came under attack.

The US military said Iran had a chance to honour the ceasefire agreement but 'elected not to' when it carried out the attack on the Kiku.

US President Donald Trump warned that Iran would 'no longer exist' if America was 'forced' to restart military action, accusing Tehran of violating the ceasefire.

Iran has launched strikes on Kuwait and Bahrain in retaliation for the US attacks, the Revolutionary Guards said, adding that any further action against Iran would receive a 'crushing response'.
