The Congress released its list of candidates for Rajya Sabha polls on June 18, naming Praveen Chakravarty, who can win only with the backing of Tamil Nadu's TVK.
While the Congress lacks enough seats, CM C Jospeh Vijay's TVK has allotted the lone Tamil Nadu Rajya Sabha seat to the party, a significant gesture highlighting the growing bonhomie between the two parties.
TVK is being seen as a potential new constituent of the Congress-led INDIA bloc at the Centre, though the DMK has shown signs of leaving.
Chakravarty heads the Congress's Data Analytics and Professionals Wing and has been a big backer of the alliance, saying he wanted a pre-election alliance rather than waiting for the poll results.
He expressed gratitude to Rahul Gandhi and Tamil Nadu CM Vijay, calling himself the first MP candidate of the Tamil Nadu Social Justice Progressive Alliance.
Chakravarty assured that he would carry the mandate of alliance workers into Parliament and serve as an honest voice of the Tamil people in the House.
