Delhi Police arrested Lavkesh Bajaj, owner of the Flourish Stay B&B in Malviya Nagar, after a massive fire killed 21 people and exposed alleged fire safety and building violations.

The blaze erupted early Wednesday at the five-storey guest house in south Delhi, killing 18 foreigners from African nations, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and more.

Investigations suggest the guest house was operating without a mandatory fire NOC and in violation of multiple safety norms, including only one entry-exit point and permanently sealed windows.

The establishment was allegedly running 25 rooms, including some in the basement, far beyond its approved capacity of six rooms.

Delhi lieutenant governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has ordered a month-long inspection drive covering hotels, nursing homes, and other commercial establishments.
