The Delhi government has ordered a month-long citywide crackdown on fire safety violations following the Hauz Rani fire disaster that claimed 21 lives.
A high-level review meeting chaired by Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Delhi home minister Ashish Sood directed authorities to shut down non-compliant hotels, lodges, and other commercial establishments.
The compliance drive will begin on June 4, with joint inspections conducted by district administrations, police, and the Delhi Fire Service.
Authorities have been directed to close hotel rooms operating beyond permitted capacity and initiate sealing and legal action against establishments violating fire safety norms.
A magisterial inquiry has also been ordered, and efforts are underway to treat the injured, identify victims, and assist families with cremation and burial arrangements.
