At least 21 people were killed after a devastating fire broke out at the Lemon Green Restaurant in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar area on Wednesday.
A major rescue operation was launched by the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) and Delhi Police, with rescue workers, including locals, rushing to the spot to pull out those trapped inside the five-floor narrow building.
About 40 people were rescued and rushed to hospital where 21 were declared brought dead, officials said.
The death toll could rise with several of the injured in a critical condition.
President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta expressed their condolences to the bereaved families.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established, and an investigation has been launched to determine how the blaze started and whether any fire safety violations or lapses contributed to the tragedy.
