A 22-year-old college student was found dead at his Mapusa residence in Goa after being grilled by police over a viral video of him littering.

The student had spent several hours at the police station before his death, which has sparked outrage and calls for a detailed investigation.

The third-year student was booked under the Goa Non-Biodegradable Garbage Control Act, 1996, after a video of him dumping garbage in public went viral on social media.

Police Superintendent Salim Shaikh defended the police action, but the student's family alleged that the police summoning and questioning contributed to his death.

The case has sparked a wider conversation about mental health and the impact of social media on individuals.
