A private hospital owner and his nephew from Unnao have been arrested in connection with the abduction and murder of a 21-year-old woman who had lodged a sexual harassment complaint against the hospital owner.

The accused, Devkant Uttam and Vivek Patel, allegedly dumped the woman's body nearly 450km away in Bulandshahr to conceal the crime.

The victim, a BA final-year student, had lodged a harassment complaint against Uttam at Kotwali police station in Unnao on May 19, two days before her disappearance.

Patel had allegedly texted the victim on May 21 asking to meet, and she never returned home. Her mobile phone was switched off shortly afterwards.

During interrogation, Patel confessed that he and Uttam strangled the woman on May 21 and later carried her body to Jahangirabad in Bulandshahr, where they dumped it by the roadside.

The victim's family identified a nose ring recovered from the body, and DNA matching is now underway to confirm the identity.

The police have taken Patel to Bulandshahr to reconstruct the sequence of events and recover additional evidence.
