India has established a mechanism with Bangladesh to verify the nationality of suspected illegal migrants and deport them. This comes in response to Dhaka's claims that Indian authorities attempted to 'push back' people into the neighboring country.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that there are laws in place to deal with foreign nationals in India, including those from Bangladesh, and that a bilateral mechanism is used to deport such individuals.

Jaiswal noted that cases are referred to the Bangladeshi side for verification of nationality, and once verified, the deportation process is taken forward. He expressed hope that the Bangladeshi side will expedite the process to facilitate the deportation of people illegally staying in India.

India has requested Bangladesh to verify the nationality of over 2,860 suspected Bangladeshis living in the country, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governments in border states have prioritized tackling undocumented migration.

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has warned that any effort to violate international border management norms and bilateral understandings will be 'strictly resisted', and that no individual or group will be allowed to enter Bangladesh illegally.
