India has sent a clear signal to the world by re-engaging with its neighbourhood, particularly Myanmar and Nepal, in a bid to strengthen economic integration and protect its north-eastern flank from anti-India insurgents.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been advocating closer ties with Nepal since taking office in 2014 and has made it clear that India cannot be considered a global power until it has excellent ties with countries in the sub-continent.

The Modi government has also made it clear that it will not engage with Pakistan until cross-border terrorism is stopped, and with China, all bilateral engagements will be directly proportional to the peace and tranquility on the 3488 km LAC.

India is keeping Bhutan and Sri Lanka close to its chest while ensuring the Maldives receives economic assistance, despite its leader's anti-India stance.

The government is focused on neighbours without wasting time on countries that promote Pakistan, and is willing to go the extra mile to ensure the Himalayan Republic grows with India through economic integration.
