DK Shivakumar was sworn in as the chief minister of Karnataka, marking the end of his leadership tussle with predecessor Siddaramaiah. He was accompanied by deputy chief minister G Parameshwara and a 12-member ministerial team in the ceremony attended by senior Congress leaders and public figures.

Shivakumar chaired his first cabinet meeting and announced youth-centric initiatives, including a free bus pass scheme for students and the formation of 10,000 Bharat Jodo Yuva Sanghas to raise leadership quality and build social harmony.

He also announced the setting up of a private employment exchange to address the issue of unemployment and the extension of the drive to issue A-Khata documents to unauthorised buildings across Karnataka.

Shivakumar's elevation follows Siddaramaiah's resignation on May 28, and he has been elected leader of the Congress Legislature Party. The next Karnataka Assembly election is expected in May 2028.
