Tamil Nadu chief minister C Joseph Vijay has allocated the state's lone Rajya Sabha seat to the All India Congress party. The seat became vacant after AIADMK leader C Ve Shanmugam resigned following his election to the legislative assembly last month.
The decision was made ahead of the June 18 Rajya Sabha election in Tamil Nadu, where the Congress is expected to comfortably win the seat.
Congress state in-charge Girish Chodankar had met Vijay earlier to request the seat, citing the need to strengthen the party's presence in the Rajya Sabha.
