A month after the Trinamool Congress' (TMC) debacle in the West Bengal assembly elections, party supremo Mamata Banerjee has reappointed MP Abhishek Banerjee as the national general secretary.

He will be assisted by two of her staunch loyalists, Derek O'Brien and Dola Sen, who have been appointed national joint secretaries.

The announcement follows a high-level meeting of the party's National Working Committee at Mamata Banerjee's residence in Kolkata.

The move comes at a time when several TMC leaders have questioned Abhishek Banerjee's leadership.

The party has also reconstituted its state committee with new appointments, including Chandrima Bhattacharya as the new state president.

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rahul Sinha claimed the TMC will collapse, saying it will disintegrate in the next few days.
