Carlos Alcaraz has spoken out about his shock split with coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, stating that his new team 'feels a little bit different'. The pair parted ways in December, ending a highly successful seven-year partnership that saw Ferrero coach Alcaraz to 24 titles, including six Grand Slam trophies.
Ferrero was with Alcaraz when he turned professional at 15 and was instrumental in his rise to success. However, the split was reportedly due to a contract dispute and Ferrero's claim that the people around Alcaraz were giving him poor advice.
Speaking to Eurosport, Alcaraz said: 'It's mostly the same members; we just restructured a little bit. The members are the same as before; we're just missing one.' He also acknowledged that it feels different when he returns to a tournament he played in the previous year.
Ferrero has been vocal about the split, appearing in multiple interviews and sharing his side of the story. He even revealed that he unfollowed Alcaraz on social media after his Australian Open 2026 victory, citing the need for some distance.
After Ferrero's departure, Samuel Lopez was promoted as chief coach, a role he has held since 2024.
