Veteran trainer Bob Baffert is back at the Kentucky Derby with two contenders, Litmus Test and Potente, as he aims for a record-breaking seventh win.
Baffert, 73, shares the current record with legendary trainer Ben Jones, but a three-year ban from Churchill Downs-affiliated tracks in 2021 derailed his bid for a standalone record.
Returning to the Derby stage in 2025 with Citizen Bull and Rodriguez, Baffert's horses didn't make a significant impact, but he's once again chasing history with Potente and Litmus Test.
Potente, ridden by jockey Juan J. Hernandez, enters at 23/1 odds, while Litmus Test, with Martin Garcia aboard, is listed at 34/1.
Despite longer odds, Baffert's track record at Churchill Downs keeps both horses in the conversation, but the competition remains strong, and a historic seventh win would require them to outperform projections.
The 2026 Kentucky Derby is set for a 6:57 pm ET post time, with Baffert under intense scrutiny. A victory would see him move past Ben Jones to become the most successful trainer in Derby history.
