Apple Inc. has significantly increased iPhone production in India, with the country now accounting for a quarter of the company's global iPhone output. The US-based tech giant assembled around 55 million iPhones in India in 2025, a 53% increase from the previous year.

The move reflects Apple's efforts to avoid tariffs on China, where the company still makes the bulk of its iPhones. The production shift has been bolstered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's production-linked incentives aimed at turning India into the world's factory.

Despite the cost advantages of manufacturing in India, the country still faces structural challenges, including a less robust supply chain and logistics issues. Apple and other companies are seeking additional government support to remain cost competitive.

The company's suppliers in India, including Foxconn Technology Group, Tata Electronics, and Pegatron Corp., are building various iPhone models, including the high-end Pro and Pro Max models.

Apple's long-term supply chain strategy involves building a second major iPhone manufacturing base in India to serve global demand. The company is deepening its local supplier partnerships to make components and is targeting market share gains in the region.
